Leap
Kontakt 8 Framework
A scalable instrument framework for Kontakt 8. Designed to turn audio manipulation into a playful performance while establishing a new standard for maintainability.

From Product to Platform
Leap is an ultra-fast, playful engine for manipulating loops and samples in Kontakt 8. But beneath the surface, it represents a paradigm shift in how Native Instruments builds software.
Prior to Leap, instruments like the Play Series were built as discrete units—each release was its own codebase. Updating a feature meant updating dozens of individual products.
Leap is a true Framework. We designed it as a single, updatable engine that powers a limitless library of content. When we update the Leap framework, every expansion pack ever released benefits immediately. It shifts the model from "shipping products" to "shipping content on a platform."
The Design Challenge
The goal was to create a "live sampler at your fingertips"—a system that makes static loops feel like playable instruments.
We analyzed the landscape of SaaS music tools and distilled the workflow into a performant, local-first MVP. The result is a system where users can trigger loops, perform FX variations, and manipulate time in real-time, all with zero latency.
A System for Scale
Leap wasn't just designed for users; it was designed for the sound design ecosystem. By standardizing the interaction model, we enabled the rapid creation of curated expansion packs, creating a steady stream of recurring value.
Launch Expansions include:
- 80s New Wave: Vintage synth bass and gated drums.
- Latin Trap: Reggaeton rhythms and Brazilian funk.
- Soul Gold: 60s/70s vocal hooks and harmonies.
- Progressive Trance: Euphoric synths and driving basslines.
Leap proves that robust system architecture doesn't just help developers—it empowers designers to build consistent, scalable experiences that age gracefully.
